Great plan? Best plan. Whatever it was, it was at least an idea, a concept. I had left my gear in the lobby of that building down there but kept my detonator. If I could just time it perfectly... I could probably injure the lizard before it got me. Maybe even escape, who knows? To say I was scared shitless would be an understatement. The ground itself shook under the weight of those gigantic armored feet... Mini earthquakes with each thundering step. Though I guess my assumption was right, they do smell fear or at least smell humans. The lizard paused for a moment to sniff the air. While admittedly this was scary, it did give me a moment to weigh my options. It just taking one more step could be the difference between me living or becoming a 'snack'.
But I wasn't sure if it was close enough... Blow a leg off, something, but I couldn't prematurely detonate. Waiting was practically torture. At any moment I expected the thing to lift its rifle and incinerate the building I was in... Just light me up, not even bothering to have 'fun' with me. Then again was that so bad? After mentally hitting myself for thinking too much I spotted a small figure. Well, small for a giant that is. It was the mouse... Again... Realizing that it could get the lizard's attention long enough for me to get away I held my breath. Minutes pass as the thing sniffed still. Ever so slowly I watched the mouse creep up behind it. I was genuinely surprised it got so close to the thing. I suppose it was too busy smelling me out to actually bother.
I could still feel the mouse's hand around my body... All-encompassing, all almost crushing. Like every fiber of my being was being squeezed for just a split moment. I wondered if it really meant that. I mean, it did put me down... Relatively unharmed... I mean, mental scarring is one thing, but at least I'm not dead. Pushing these thoughts aside I watched silently. You know, in some human training class for fighting giants. I'd probably be on the bulletin board of what NOT to do. Practically no cover... Trying to blow them up with only a few satchel charges! I mean, they'd be strong enough to topple a building. But what the hell was I going to do then? Live happily ever after? What if it doesn't even hurt them? Both are wearing armor...
A shiver ran through me as I realized that maybe it wasn't acknowledging the rodent because they were together. What if the mouse left me alive so that the lizard could get me? I was surprised when that mouse seemed so similar to animals on Earth, so what if their diets were the same? I'll just try and kill them both then. Hell, already tried once with the mouse... So once more back to the waiting. An old friend of mine once said that in war it's not the fighting that gets to you, it's the waiting and by god was he right about that... Just need to let the mouse get a little closer... Why did it look so angry? Well, I did kinda launch a high explosive at it... But this was such a contrast to the last look it gave me... Almost as if it was angry at the lizard... Ah, what the hell... This time I doubt I can miss it, probably.

No need to apologize; the fact that Warren had not described Alice as female was something that I mentioned as jumping out to me in the first few pictures, so it really stood out to me to see the female pronoun without any acknowledgement of him figuring that out. It's something that's easy to miss when we know more than Warren does!
